Dharun Ravi described his new roommate Tyler Clementi as “the most gay person I’ve ever seen,” while Clementi described Ravi’s family as “sooo indian / first gen americanish … his rents defs own a dunkin [donuts].” These are just two of the emails and online communication released Friday in a court motion filed to dismiss criminal charges that Ravi invaded his roommate’s privacy by secretly recording a sexual encounter between Clementi and another man. Clementi, 18, died on Sept. 22, 2010, when he drove his car off the George Washington Bridge. Ravi texted his roommate just prior to Clementi’s suicide, apologizing for the webcam incident by writing “I don’t want your freshman year to be ruined by a petty misunderstanding, it’s adding to my guilt.”
