Pia Carusone, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ chief of staff, described the current state of her boss’s health in an interview. She said that Giffords’, “words are back more and more now, but she’s still using facial expressions as a way to express,” and that she still has trouble with complex sentences. Carusone also said that Giffords will decide whether to remain in office by May of 2012, because that is when petitions for re-election are due. But Carusone also said that, “if she were to plateau today, and this was as far as she gets, it would not be nearly the quality of life she had before. There’s no comparison.”
