Was this part of his Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy? Kanye West’s latest album, which has garnered rave reviews almost as exuberant as his personality, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 charts this week, selling about 518,000 copies. Although the figure ranks as one the best album launches of the year, it fell short of some lofty expectations. Also landing near the top of the heap was rapper Nicki Minaj, whose Pink Friday moved nearly 375,000 copies. Sales figures are estimates; Nielsen will release their numbers on Wednesday.
