New Oil Plume Discovered in Gulf

Disasters

Stretches 22 miles.

This “top kill” procedure better work, because otherwise it just keeps getting worse: Scientists have discovered what they think is a new massive plume of oil in the Gulf of Mexico, stretching 22 miles from the site of the leak toward Mobile Bay, Alabama. The six-mile wide plume, which sits 3,300 feet beneath the sea, is the second undersea plume they’ve found since the Deepwater Oil rig exploded on April 20. Scientists also fear that the chemical dispersants used to break up the oil will turn into plumes of their own.
