The Archdiocese of New Orleans on Friday released a list of 57 priests and deacons who have “faced credible claims of sexual abuse of minors in recent decades,” local news station 4WWL reports. The list is 10 pages long, and includes both recent allegations and ones that occurred decades ago. In a letter, Archbishop Gregory Aymond wrote that he thought releasing the names was “the right thing to do in order to foster the healing of victims… and in the pursuit of justice.” The list includes clergy members who are alive, dead, and were accused of abuse outside of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Many of the living members listed are out of ministry. The list was released shortly after a former New Orleans deacon, George Brignac, was accused of sexually assaulting two boys in a lawsuit.
