New Orleans Cop Beat Teen Girl in Jail

Wasn’t charged.

A video released Wednesday shows a New Orleans cop beating a teenage girl with shackles inside a jail cell last year. The assault, which was caught by a camera at a juvenile detention center, shows Officer Terrance Saulny walking into the 16-year-old’s cell and then striking her with handcuffs when she crossed her arms and allegedly uttered a profanity. “She’s in the detention center, so of course she may have done something to be in there. But that doesn’t give you the right to bang her up the way [Saulny] did,” the girl’s lawyer said. “He was fighting like she was a man.” The teen says she suffers nightmares related to the incident, which occurred in September. Saulny was fired but has not faced charges.
