The New York Post announced its endorsement in the Republican presidential race for Donald Trump ahead of the state’s primary next week. Though the Post described Trump as “a potential superstar of vast promise,” the publication’s support hangs on the expectation that should he win the nomination, he will “pivot” to “be more presidential: better informed on policy, more self-disciplned, and less thin-skinned.” The editorial board went on to critcize the businessman’s policies on foreign policy, trade, and immigration as “rookie mistakes,” but lauded him as “an imperfect messenger carrying a vital message.” The Post added, “he reflects the best of ‘New York values’—and offers the best hope for all Americans who rightly feel betrayed by the political class.”
