Newt Gingrich won’t give up that easily. With new polls showing Mitt Romney up by double-digit percentage points in Florida, Gingrich sought to play down the importance of the Sunshine State and promised that the race would continue right up until the Republican convention. In an interview with ABC on Sunday Gingrich said, “The conservatives clearly are rejecting Romney. He is nowhere near getting a majority. And the fact is, once you get beyond Florida, these are all proportional representation states, and he’s not going to be anywhere near a majority by April. And so this is going to go on all the way to the convention.” Meanwhile, Romney said that Gingrich was "flailing around" and in trouble. Aside from a stellar debate performance, what helped Mitt surge in Florida? He spent more than $12 million on ads.
