Newtown Votes to Close Sandy Hook

TRAGEDY

New school will be constructed.

The tragic site comes to its sad conclusion. Sandy Hook Elementary School will be closed forever after Newtown, Connecticut, residents voted Saturday construct a new school. In the highest voter turnout since the 2008 election, 4,504 residents voted to close the school versus 558 to keep it open. “Now we can move forward with the new school,” said Legislative Council Chairman Jeff Capeci. “This is great for the town. We can bring our children home.” The school has been closed since the December shooting that left 20 children and six teachers dead.
