NHL Star’s Widow Makes Surprise Announcement During Eulogy
‘A TOTAL SURPRISE’
The widow of Columbus Blue Jackets star Johnny Gaudreau said at his memorial service on Monday that she was nine weeks pregnant with their third child. Meredith Gaudreau’s surprise announcement comes 11 days after her late husband and his brother Matthew were killed when an alleged drunk driver careened into them as they were riding their bikes in south New Jersey. Both men were there for their sister’s wedding. At their joint service, Meredith said in her eulogy that “John and I had the best six months as a family of four. These will forever be the best six months of my life.” She said that her “favorite week of my life out of those six months” was the one where she found out she was carrying the couple’s third child. “I was so nervous because this was, again, a total surprise, but his reaction was immediately kissing me and hugging me, even though I was driving the car,” she recalled. “After the initial excitement sank in, every time he looked at me, he would say, ‘You’re nuts, you know that?’ Three kids. Noa, our oldest, hasn’t even turned two yet.”
