With her upcoming dramedy Rabbit Hole garnering favorable reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival, Oscar winner Nicole Kidman will now try to win over the harsh New York theater critics. The actress will return to Broadway in a revival of the Tennessee Williams play, Sweet Bird of Youth, a spokesman for the production confirmed Friday. It will be Kidman’s first appearance on Broadway since her debut in David Hare’s The Blue Room during the 1998-1999 season. Reviews of the show were mixed, but it was still a hot ticket thanks to Kidman’s star wattage—and the fact that she appeared nude onstage. In Sweet Bird of Youth, which is scheduled to begin in fall 2011, Kidman will play Alexandra Del Lago, an over-the-hill lush of a movie star who cavorts with stylish gigolo Chance Wayne. The production will be directed by David Cromer (Our Town) and produced by Scott Rudin (Fences). The original 1959 Broadway production starred Geraldine Page and Paul Newman.
