Gov. Nikki Haley on Thursday vetoed millions of dollars from South Carolina’s state budget that would’ve funded a potential move of Confederate museums to Charleston from the capital Columbia. A directive that Haley cut would have called for a study of the relocation of the Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum to put them alongside the Hunley, a Confederate submarine. “Unfortunately, this veiled attempt to justify the co-location of the H.L. Hunley and Confederate Relic Room is nothing more than a legislative pet project and should not become law,” Haley said, calling the attempt a concealed effort to relocate Confederate memorabilia.
