Ninth Suicide at China iPhone Factory

Tragic

Working conditions under scrutiny.

China's Foxconn Technology Group, the company that manufactures the iPhone and the iPad, is under scrutiny after a ninth worker committed suicide this year on Friday. It's the latest in a string of 11 suicide attempts; two jumpers have survived. The company's working conditions are under intense scrutiny, and labor activists claim that employees face harsh conditions and severe punishments, an allegation denied by Foxconn. Nan Gang, a 21-year-old logistics worker, jumped to his death after a late night shift on Friday, according to officials. Another Foxconn employee jumped from a building in July after interrogations over a lost iPhone model.
