Another DADT fake-out? Despite earlier reports that a vote would take place Wednesday night on the military policy known as Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) announced the vote would be postponed so he could continue to negotiate with Republicans. The delay buys more time for Reid and Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) to hammer out a deal; Collins supports a repeal, but has so far demanded a “fair and open” process on the debate and amendments of the whole Defense Authorization Bill, of which DADT is a part. The Senate also delayed a vote on the DREAM Act, which would allow certain illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as minors to become citizens as adults.
