North Korea reportedly fired a mid-range ballistic missile on Thursday but the test launch failed within seconds, South Korean officials said. The missile allegedly had a range of 1,800 miles. Yang Uk, a policy advisor to the South Korean navy, told Reuters that the northern country is “in a rush to show anything that is successful” because of the upcoming Workers’ Party congress. Instead of reconfiguring the malfunction following the last missile-launch failure, the country tried again too soon. He added, “They need to succeed but they keep failing.”
