North Korea is short on kimchi supplies after droughts and floods damaged cabbage crops used for the dish, The Guardian reports. Families typically use this time to make enough kimchi to last through the winter. Other ingredients, like garlic, onions, and salt, are also in short supply. “If people see someone with radishes and cabbages on an ox cart going by, they will chase after it and offer a higher price to buy the produce, creating a scene,” a source inside the country told The Guardian.
