The New York chapter of the Boy Scouts of America is directly challenging the national organization by hiring its first openly gay adult, 18-year-old Pascal Tessier for the Ten Mile River Scout Camps. While the Boy Scouts voted last year to allow gay boys, it still has a ban on openly gay adult scout leaders. The current leader of Boy Scouts of America is former Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
