NYC Approves Ground Zero Mosque

After strong endorsement from community board.

Who would have thought that reason could prevail so close to Ground Zero? A New York City community board has approved the construction of a mosque and Islamic cultural center two blocks from the site—projects that some had said were an insult to those who died on September 11. The board voted 29-1, with 10 abstentions. Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer said that "for anyone to imply that a mosque is not appropriate in New York ... that is just an un-American attitude."
