Republican New York City Councilman Dan Halloran, who in 2009 became the first openly elected heathen in America, was reportedly publicly flogged for allegedly helping state Sen. Malcolm Smith bribe his way onto the mayoral ticket. The New York Post reports that Halloran, who was arrested Tuesday in the bribery probe, was stripped to his waist, tied to a tree, and flogged with a belt 11 times by leaders of his Theodish heathen religion. Halloran also reportedly had to engage in (and lost) a spear-throwing contest, in which he and another member hurled seven-foot-long spears at each other from a distance of 30 paces. Free country indeed.
