NYC Gets First Casino

You don’t have to drive to Atlantic City or fly to Vegas anymore. New York City’s first casino opens Friday, located in South Ozone Park in Queens. It was approved by the legislature in 2001, but was delayed by false starts and political manipulation. The president of the Resorts World casino said it will give New Yorkers a chance to experience Vegas without having to leave the city. But it’s also caused controversy. “It is going to create a big mess,” said the owner of a car repair shop across the street. “Prostitutes. Crime. Gamblers are not going to create new business for us. I don’t want this garbage.”
