The World Financial Center in lower Manhattan, just across the street from the new World Trade Center, was evacuated Thursday morning after reports of a suspicious package. The package contained a toy grenade, and police said workers would be allowed back into the tower. The 44-story building has 2.7 million square feet of office space, and houses major financial institutions like Merrill Lynch and OppenheimerFunds Inc.
