A baby whose body was found in the East River near the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge died in his father’s care, according to the New York City Police Department. The NYPD said at a press conference Wednesday that the father, James Currie, 37, fled to Thailand shortly after throwing his dead child in the water. He’s been located in Bangkok and will be returned to NYC, where he will face a charge of concealing a corpse, authorities said. Police added that video footage showed the child entering Currie’s home, then showed Currie leaving his residence with a backpack that they believe contained the child’s corpse. Police recovered a backpack near where the child was found. Cops received a call from the child’s mother, reporting that her son did not show up at a daycare or school facility. She said she saw news of a young child’s body recovered in the water and feared the worst. The investigation is still ongoing and police said they expect Currie to return within a week.
