The second Iraq War veteran to be injured at Occupy Oakland was not participating in protests at the time of his arrest early Thursday morning. Kayvan Sabeghi had joined in the march early the day before, but was only trying to return to his home when he was beaten by police and arrested. Sabeghi went out to dinner after the march on Wednesday, but when he tried to return home, police told him that he could not pass. His coworker said, “Literally, you (could) see his apartment. The police for some reason… said, ‘No, you cannot pass.’” When he tried to explain the situation to them, they reportedly began beating him with batons. After his arrest, he was hospitalized with a lacerated spleen.
