President Obama has taken to a view that America's decline is a myth, as portrayed in the forthcoming book The World America Made by neoconservative historian Robert Kagan, who—coincidentally—serves as an adviser to Mitt Romney. Though the book doesn’t come out until Feb. 14, Obama apparently read excerpts published in The New Republic and highlighted some of Kagan’s views in his State of the Union address. “America is back,” the president said Tuesday night. “Anyone who tells you otherwise, anyone who tells you that America is in decline or that our influence has waned, doesn’t know what they’re talking about.” This message has spread throughout the White House, where aides say Obama has been determined to fight the Republican critique about America’s decline under his presidency.
