Obama Makes Stimulus Law

Let the spending begin: Obama has signed the $787 billion stimulus bill into law. “We have begun the essential work of keeping the American dream alive in our time,” the president said this afternoon at a ceremony at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, where he was joined by Vice President Biden and workers in solar, wind, and other green industries. The sprawling legislation, which Congress has fought over for weeks, will “set our economy on a firmer foundation,” Obama pledged. “I don’t want to pretend that today marks the end of our economic problems. Nor does it constitute all of what we have to do to turn our economy around. But today does mark the beginning of the end, the beginning of what we need to do to create jobs for Americans scrambling in the wake of layoffs.”
