President Obama may take his message to the people as he works with Congress to create a debt-reduction cocktail that would include tax hikes for the wealthy as well as spending cuts. House Speaker John Boehner has said that hiking taxes is “unacceptable,” an attitude that may put him on a collision course with the White House as both parties gear up for battle over the looming fiscal cliff. President Obama has said that he would veto any deal that does not include the expiration on tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.
