Obama: Minority Boys Unfairly Sentenced

American hasn't done enough to address left-behind communities and marginalized populations, says President Obama, noting in a press conference that young men of color are more likely to end up in the criminal justice system then college or a job. Speaking about the situation in Ferguson on Monday, Obama weighed in on the fairness of America's uneven lock-up rates that begin with young African American and Hispanic boys getting suspended from school at higher rates than other children. "They tend to have much more frequent interactions with the criminal justice system at an earlier age," Obama said. "Sentencing may be different. How trials are conducted may be different."
