President Obama will nominate a businessman and climate-change advocate as commerce secretary. John Bryson previously served as chairman and CEO of Edison International, a California energy company; cofounded the Natural Resources Defense Council; and served on a United Nations advisory group on energy and climate change. He has also been a director at several major companies, including Boeing and Disney. Obama had been seeking a businessperson to replace outgoing Secretary Gary Locke (who will become ambassador to China), hoping an executive might help mend the administration’s fractured relationship with the business world.
