While the bipartisan group of senators known as the “Gang of Eight” continue to work on reaching an immigration deal, President Obama told the Spanish-language channel Telemundo on Wednesday he’s optimistic he’ll sign comprehensive immigration reform into law by the end of the summer. The senators have indicated that the bill will be introduced at the beginning of next month. “I’ve always said that if I see a breakdown in the process, that I’ve got my own legislation,” Obama clarified. “But I don’t think that’s going to be necessary.” Negotiations have been held up in part because of disputes between labor groups and businesses over the conditions of a guest-worker program.
