President Obama might have to speed up the evolution process on his gay marriage stance. LGBT advocates are pushing to have same-sex marriage added to the Democratic platform in August. While this idea pleases nearly half of Democratic senators, a few of Obama’s campaign co-chairs, the chairman of the convention, and a strong equal rights-happy base, it’s not great news for Obama. The president has showed support for the movement, but hasn’t endorsed it. On the campaign’s surface, this isn’t a problem. Behind the scenes is where tensions are bubbling—an openly pro-gay platform doesn’t necessarily scream electability.
