President Barack Obama excoriated Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Sunday, reacting to leaked audio from a 2005 hot mic in which Trump bragged about how his stardom allowed him to sexually assault women and have sex with married women. “One of the most disturbing things about this election is just the unbelievable rhetoric coming from the top of the Republican ticket. I don’t need to repeat it—there are children in the room,” Obama said at a fundraiser in Chicago for Senate candidate Rep. Tammy Duckworth. “Demeaning women, degrading women, but also minorities, immigrants, people of other faiths, mocking the disabled, insulting our troops, insulting our veterans.” The president went on to call Trump “insecure” and someone who “pumps himself up by putting other people down—not a character trait that I would advise for someone in the Oval Office.”
