It looks like the Keystone pipeline may be postponed. The State Department is expected to announce that it will explore a new route for the controversial pipeline, which runs from Canada’s oil sands to refineries in Texas. Reconsideration of the route could take a year or more. Environmentalists say the Obama administration should reject the pipeline, which they say will worsen climate change and increase dependence on fossil fuel, while ranchers and farmers in the region say it could threaten habitats. The pipeline's owner, TransCanada, and other proponents say it will create jobs and that the review has already been thorough.
