President Obama on Monday signed a bill that will ban microbeads–tiny bits of plastic that scientists say are polluting U.S. lakes, rivers, and oceans. It will be illegal to manufacture the beads, which are used in cosmetic products, starting in July 2017. Further bans will go into effect in 2018 and 2019.
