Obama: Spend Stimulus Wisely

Warns mayors that "people are watching."

President Obama has a message to the country's mayors: "The American people are watching." Addressing a gathering of municipal leaders at the White House, Obama warned that he will "call them out" if they misspend stimulus funds. "They need this plan to work," he said. "They expect to see the money that they've earned—they've worked so hard to earn—spent in its intended purposes without waste, without inefficiency, without fraud." Obama has promised unprecedented transparency though recovery.gov for expenditures from the $787 billion economic package.
