Praises Senate Republicans for willing to compromise.

President Obama took a less conciliatory tone Saturday morning in his weekly radio address when he called on House Republicans to reach a compromise deal on the debt ceiling. Despite his harsher tone, there seemed to be no progress on any deal as Senate Democrats scrambled for votes Saturday afternoon on Majority Leader Harry Reid’s debt plan and after the Senate rejected the House Republican’s plan Friday night. Obama laid the blame on House Republicans for refusing to compromise, specifically calling out Senate Republicans before their vote for being more open to compromise. Some Senate Republicans have indicated they are willing to compromise, as Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown said he would back a “Republican bill, or a Democrat bill—it doesn’t matter” as long as it cuts spending and cuts taxes.
