The White House on Friday said it would leave a seat empty at next week’s State of the Union address to symbolize the lives lost to gun violence. The announcement comes several days after President Obama introduced executive actions that will require more extensive background checks for gun sales, including gun show purchases. In response to the president’s empty seat, Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz tweeted: “If I’m elected POTUS, there’ll be an empty seat for the over 50 million unborn children killed since Roe.”
