The visit by the Tibetan Buddhist leader, who is exiled from China, follows a statement by China’s Foreign Ministry urging the U.S. not to show support for any separatist activities or to recognize Tibet as a part of China. A meeting between Obama and the Dalai Lama in 2014 infuriated Chinese leaders in Beijing.
