President Obama will not attend Justice Antonin Scalia’s funeral on Saturday, according to the White House. Instead, he and first lady Michelle Obama will go to the Supreme Court on Friday to “pay their respects” as the justice lies in repose. Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, will attend the Saturday ceremony. When Chief Justice William Rehnquist died in 2005, George W. Bush attended the funeral and eulogized him. No official reason has been given for Obama’s planned absence.
