Obama's Aunt Can Stay in U.S.

Asylum

Reason for request unknown.

Good news for the Obama family: The president's aunt, a native of Kenya, has been given the green light by an immigration court to stay in the U.S. Zeituni Onyango is the half-sister of Obama's late father and had been worried about "violence in Kenya," according to her lawyers. The exact reason for the asylum request, however, has not been disclosed. "The asylum process is confidential and she wants to keep it that way, so we can't get into details on why the judge granted asylum or the exact basis for her claim—she doesn't want people to feel sorry for her," an attorney said. Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the White House was not involved in the decision.
