Emmy Nominee Slams ‘Narcissistic’ Ex After Marriage Bombshell
He also claimed she lied about the reason they divorced.
Sofía Vergara, 54, has shared a pointed warning about “narcissistic men” after her ex-husband, actor Joe Manganiello, called her “devoid of any emotionality whatsoever” in his new memoir, Bloodlines.
Vergara was nominated for four Outstanding Supporting Actress Emmys for playing Gloria Pritchett-Delgado in Modern Family.
The actress shared an Instagram story that her son Manolo, 35, posted first, showing a chart with characteristics of a “good man” on one side and a “narcissistic man” on the other. Traits for “good” men included setting boundaries, telling the truth, and listening.
On the other side, “narcissistic men gaslight,” “blame-shift,” and “are grandiose and self-serving,” the post said. Manolo, Vergara’s only child, is her son with first husband, Joe Gonzalez.

“Remember kids, when dealing with a narcissist, it doesn’t matter how much you do for them,” Manolo had written underneath the chart. “They will resent you for it and nothing will ever be enough and they’ll always somehow try to paint you as the bad guy.”

Vergara and Manganiello, 49, got married in 2015 after dating for less than a year. They finalized their divorce in 2024 over irreconcilable differences, namely their opposite views on having children.
“My marriage broke up because my husband was younger,” Vergara said in an interview with El País at the time. “He wanted to have kids, and I didn’t want to be an old mom. I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.”

Manganiello, who played werewolf Alcide Herveaux in HBO’s True Blood, revealed in his memoir that he’s recovered from a mysterious autoimmune illness that led to “major organ amputation,” but that the illness played a huge role in the disintegration of his marriage.
He wrote that Vergara wouldn’t hug him even when he pleaded. He also claimed she made fun of him for adopting Bubbles, a 5-lb chihuahua, when he was suicidal.
Manganiello is now engaged to 37-year-old actress Caitlin O’Connor.
