MEEMAW ALERT

MAGA Star Attempts Comeback With Secret Trumpy Sitcom

Roseanne Barr is trying to claw her way back into television eight years after her racist tweets caused ABC to pull the plug on her Roseanne reboot.

In her new secret sitcom Meemaw, the MAGA loyalist plays the grandmother of a “mixed-race family of preppers in Texas” trying to “take down a criminal empire and throw her granddaughter the most fantastic bat mitzvah,” Page Six reported.

“It’s every bit as revolutionary as the Roseanne show, if not more, and my work has improved with time,” Barr told Page Six. “I want everybody who disagrees in a family to sit in the same room and just laugh and go, ‘Yeah, maybe I was an a--hole that time. Well, you were an a--hole this time. Oh, we’re all a--holes. Let’s get a beer.”

Meemaw is a “semi-autobiographical series about a woman who hails from a very liberal East Coast Jewish family” who must move to Texas after her family disinherits her. Investors privately funded the show, and the crew secretly shot the eight-part comedy series in Austin, Texas. It does not yet have a network or streamer that has agreed to air it.

Barr said the show will appeal to people across the political spectrum. She included in the script “some great jokes about Republicans that the lefties are gonna love.”

“I make fun of everybody because everybody deserves to be made fun of who’s in power,” she said, adding, “I’m an equal opportunity destroyer.”

But Barr’s request for funding from MAGA tycoon Elon Musk (“He wouldn’t call me back,” she said) calls into question Barr’s claims that the show avoids a right-wing skew.

So does the cast, which is a who’s who of Hollywood’s biggest Trump supporters and includes election conspiracy theorist Randy Quaid, anti-vaxxer and Sopranos actress Drea de Matteo, and comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who came under fire after calling Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” in his set at a Trump rally in 2024. Hinchcliffe also made a controversial joke about the murder of George Floyd at Netflix’s The Roast of Kevin Hart.

Barr co-wrote the show with longtime Adam Sandler collaborator Allen Covert, who said in a Washington Reporter interview that he “would dive in front of a bullet for Trump.”

Michael Fishman, who played Barr’s son on Roseanne, said Barr’s tweet caused “damage” and was “dehumanizing.” Barr’s tweet compared Valerie Jarrett, an Iranian-African American former senior adviser to President Barack Obama, to the offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.”

Barr denied that her tweet was racist and claims she didn’t know Jarrett was Black. Barr addressed Fishman on the Can’t Be Censored podcast in Sept.

“You are an ignoramus and a bigot, and you have no idea what I said, because it contradicts the Democrat Party that you’ve had shoved down your throat and up your a—,” she said. “And so just f--- you.”
