Pop Star Reveals She Lost Her Virginity After Triple Grammy Win

QUITE THE CELEBRATION

The singer confessed that she had a made with herself as a teenager.

Lizzo revealed that she lost her virginity after winning three Grammy awards.

On an episode of the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, the pop star said that she once promised herself she would only have sex for the first time after she took home a Grammy. Speaking to hosts Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky, and Kristin Batalucco, Lizzo said, “For me, I just promised myself when I was younger that I wouldn’t have sex until I won a Grammy.”

The singer, now 37, was 31 when she won her first three Grammys in 2020. That January, she took home three awards: Best Pop Solo Performance for “Truth Hurts,” Best Urban Contemporary Album for Cuz I Love You, and Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Jerome.”

The podcast hosts exclaimed in response to the candid confession. “I was a late bloomer. I lied about it for a long time,” Lizzo told them, admitting that she would lie even to her friends. “I was so embarrassing.” The award-winning singer added, “I didn’t even know that it was in my cards.”

“I feel like a weight off my chest right now!” she said after telling the story.

Lizzo also shared that she had her first kiss at 21, saying she had previously held back for “religious” reasons. “When we were teenagers at my church, we all made a pact that we wouldn’t do anything before marriage,” she said. “And then, I was just so scared. No one wanted to kiss me.” The pop star said that when it finally happened on New Year’s Eve, she was “really mad.”

The podcast spanned several subjects, with Lizzo also revealing how she met her boyfriend, Myke Wright, in 2016. They have been together since 2021, she told the Friends Keep Secrets hosts.

Lizzo released her new song, “Don’t Make Me Love U,” in March. She said last year that she had finished recording her fifth studio album, Love in Real Life. Her last album, Special, was released in 2022 and earned her another Grammy for the song “About Damn Time,” which won Record of the Year.

The pop star took a hiatus following misconduct allegations by her dancers in 2023. Lizzo has denied the allegations, telling actress Keke Palmer in 2024, “I did nothing wrong.” She wrote a thought-provoking reflection of her experience with “being canceled” in a 2025 Substack post, telling fans that she is no longer afraid. “If I’ve learned one thing about the internet it is this: lies are easy to believe and the truth is hard to prove,” she said.

“Live like the internet doesn’t exist, don’t censor yourself to the unrealistic standards of people who aren’t even perfect themselves.”
