While Occupy’s Oakland and Portland encampments have been cleared out by the police, protesters at the movement’s home turf in New York are planning a street carnival on Thursday in honor of their campaign’s two-month anniversary. They posted about Thursday’s events on Facebook, writing of high hopes to effectively “shut down” Wall Street. Organizers of the movement are referring to Thursday as a “day of action,” acknowledging that it could lead to mass arrests. The protesters will march from their camp headquarters to Wall Street and then spread out among the city’s subway stops, finishing the day by marching across the Brooklyn Bridge. Occupy Wall Street’s spokesman said protesters’ intentions are to “provoke ideas and discussion, not to provoke any violent reactions.”
