Liz Cheney on Obama’s Nobel ‘Farce’
Call this the most creative response to President Obama’s surprise winning of the Nobel Peace Prize. Liz Cheney, appearing on Fox News Sunday, calls the win a “farce,” and urges Obama to “send a mother of a fallen American soldier to accept the prize on behalf of the U.S. military.” We’re sure that will go over well in Norway.
White House Blasts Fox News (Again)
The White House offensive against Fox News continues. Appearing on Reliable Sources, Obama Communications Director Anita Dunn stands by her recent criticism, telling Howard Kurtz that Fox is "the research arm" of the GOP, and that when Obama appears on the network, “he understands he’s not really going on it as a news network,” but “to debate the opposition.”
McCain Admits Campaign ‘Tensions’ With Sarah Palin
Looks like there was some conflict between mavericks. Sen. John McCain, appearing on State of the Union, responded to comments from former campaign manager Steve Schmidt, who predicted a presidential run for Sarah Palin in 2012 would be “catastrophic.” McCain admitted there are tensions with the Palin camp, but that she is still a force to be reckoned with—though when it comes to that 2012 race, “let’s come up with a winning combination next time.”
Bennett to CNN: Stop Talking About ‘Don't Ask, Don't Tell’!
On State of the Union, William Bennett took a dig Sunday at Obama and CNN’s John King (who was not particularly pleased with the remark) for spending too much time discussing the issue of gays serving openly, when there are more serious issues facing the troops in Afghanistan. If he were a “serious general” watching this debate, he said, he would probably resign.
Graham: Obama Could Earn His Nobel Prize… and a Bookcase!
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) made a promise to David Gregory on Sunday’s Meet the Press: If Obama chooses wisely on how to deal with Afghanistan, he will build him a bookcase to display his Nobel Peace Prize. Talk about an offer you can’t refuse…
Feinstein: Obama Should Listen to ‘Cracker Jack’ McChrystal
Are we finally seeing some bipartisan support for something in the Senate? Agreeing with Sen. Mitch McConnell on Face the Nation, Democratic Chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee Dianne Feinstein tells George Stephanopoulos on This Week that Obama would be smart to listen to the advice of General Stanley McChrystal and send in more troops to Afghanistan. Otherwise, he’s putting our people in “jeopardy.”
Buchanan to Obama: You’re No Teddy, No Woodrow
Giving a bit of nuance to the backlash against Obama’s Nobel Prize, Pat Buchanan lists some of the accomplishments for peace of other American prize winners. Teddy Roosevelt, Buchanan points out, ended the Russo-Japanese War, and Woodrow Wilson came up with his famous 14 points. Barack Obama, Buchanan seems to want to say, you’re no Woody Wilson.
McConnell: Senate Will Back Afghanistan Surge
It’s one thing to say you want to see more troops in Afghanistan, it’s another to say you’ll vote to make it happen. But that’s what Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Face the Nation—with the caveat that his support will come only if General McChrystal and General Petraeus also back the plan.
