An off-duty Chicago police officer was in critical condition Wednesday morning after she and her daughter were shot Tuesday night at the daughter’s South Side home, authorities said. The daughter’s boyfriend was taken into custody after fleeing with the couple’s 2-year-old child, the Chicago Tribune reported. The child apparently was unharmed. The officer, 49, who works in the narcotics unit, was with her daughter, 21, and grandchild when they encountered the child’s father at the home. The man opened fire and shot the officer, wounding her in the face, neck, and both arms. The daughter was hit in the thigh and was in stable condition. The shooter fled the scene in a Chevrolet Impala and was later stopped and arrested. The officer is a 24-year-veteran of the Chicago Police Department, and her husband also is a Chicago police officer.
