Scott Esk is a Tea Party candidate for Oklahoma’s state House. He is also an advocate of stoning gay people to death. An Oklahoma magazine has unearthed a series of Facebook posts from last summer in which Esk responds to Pope Francis’s “who am I to judge gay people?” quote with Bible passages that explain why he should totally judge gay people. When Esk pulled out a Leviticus passage about how “a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman” should be “put to death,” another Facebook user commented, “So, just to be clear, you think we should execute homosexuals (presumably by stoning)?” In case there was any confusion, Esk confirmed that, yes, that’s exactly what he thinks. “I think we would be totally in the right to do it,” he wrote. “That goes against some parts of libertarianism, I realize, and I’m largely libertarian, but ignoring as a nation that things are worthy of death is very remiss.”
