Oklahoma Jail Inmate Shot by Police After Guard Is Taken Hostage
HARROWING
Oklahoma City Police shot and killed an inmate at the Oklahoma County Detention Center on Saturday afternoon after a corrections officer was taken hostage, News 9 reports. The correctional officer, who was not identified, was rescued and taken to a local hospital, authorities said. It was not immediately clear what kind of injuries he suffered. Prisoners had reportedly livestreamed the entire incident on Facebook Live, and video purportedly from the scene showed a harrowing situation as the guard was held by inmates on his knees. The officer was reportedly taken hostage as he handed out medication to inmates, one of whom is said to have attacked him and tied him up. The inmates were heard complaining about poor conditions at the facility.
