The oldest known survivor of the Holocaust passed away Sunday in London. Alice Herz-Sommer, a pianist who was born in Prague, lived such an incredible life that she inspired this year's Oscar-nominated film The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life. Herz-Sommer knew Franz Kafka, and said she remembered the writer saying, "In this world to bring up children: In this world?" But Herz-Sommer did bring up a child, a son named Stephan who survived the camps with her and went on to a successful career as a concert cellist under the name Raphael.
