British Olympic sailor Andrew “Bart” Simpson had been training for the America’s Cup with the Swedish Artemis Racing team when their boat capsized in the San Francisco Bay, killing the 36-year-old double medalist. While all 10 of Simpson’s fellow crew members survived the accident, attempts to revive him once he was removed from the water failed. “The entire Artemis Racing team is devastated by what happened,” Artemis’s chief executive said. “Our prayers are with Andrew Simpson’s family, his wife and kids, and also the rest of my teammates. It’s a shocking experience to go through, and we have a lot to deal with in the next few days in terms of assuring everybody’s well being.”
