One Direction won artist of the year at the American Music Awards on Sunday night and also raked in honors as favorite pop/rock band, duo or group, and favorite pop/rock album—for Midnight Memories. “This has been a real perfect day... America feels like a second home to us,” the British boy band’s Liam Payne said on stage. The other big winner of the fan-voted awards was Katy Perry, who won favorite female pop/rock artist, favorite adult contemporary artist, and single of the year for her hit “Dark Horse.” It was a good night for the absent Kerry (who is on tour in Australia): The NFL confirmed she will headline this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. Other AMA winners included breakthrough newcomer Iggy Azalea—leading the field with six nominations—who was honored as favorite rap/hip-hop artist and for favorite rap/hip-hop album for The New Classic. Enrique Iglesias won favorite Latin artist, Sam Smith was named favorite pop/rock male artist, and Luke Bryan won as favorite male country artist. Taylor Swift won the Dick Clark Award for Excellence.
